Since April 2015, the trustees of the Scheme have been required to prepare an annual governance statement signed by the Chairman of the Scheme, known as the “Chairman’s Statement”, listed in the Important Documents section.

The Chairman’s Statement covering the period 6th April 2022 to 5th April 2023 is shown in the important documents section and sets out:

  • The charges and transaction costs paid by Fund members.
  • The cumulative effect of those charges and transaction costs for example members.
  • The Trustees’ assessment of how the charges and transaction costs paid by members represent good value for members.
  • How the Trustees ensure the prompt and accurate processing of core financial transactions within the Fund, such as the investment of contributions, switching of funds and payment of benefits to members.
  • How the Trustees maintain the required knowledge and understanding of pensions issues and use this knowledge, together with input from their advisers, to carry out the Trustees’ duties.

From October 2019 the Fund’s Statement of Investment Principles (‘SIP’) has also been publicly available under the important documents section of this website. In 2023 the SIP was updated as follows:

  • To incorporate the Trustees investment beliefs regarding socially responsible investing,
  • To reflect the addition of the HSBC Islamic Global Equity index to the Defined Contribution section,
  • To reflect a change in the Global Equity Fund (WEQ) benchmark (incorporating an ESG screen) within the Defined Contribution section,
  • The reflect the replacement of the Aegon BlackRock All Stocks UK Index Linked Gilt Index Fund with the Index Linked Gilt Fund (WEQ),
  • To reflect the change of performance benchmark of the Aegon BlackRock Cash Fund to SONIA (Sterling Over Night Index Average) in the Defined Contribution section.

Implementation Statement

The Implementation Statement covering the year ending 5 April 2023 can be found under important documents.

The Implementation Statement sets out the actions undertaken by the Trustees, the service providers and the investment managers, to implement the policies as set out in the SIP. The Implementation Statement also includes voting and engagement information that has been gathered from the investment managers.
